The Israeli police have detained ten people overnight due to riots in East Jerusalem, the police said Thursday.

"A group of masked young men threw Molotov cocktails at night from Isawiya to Ma'ale Adumim without any damage or injuries occurring. The police forces and the Israeli Border Police, which were not far from the scene, arrested 10 suspects for checking purposes," the statement published on Twitter said.

The incident came after U.S. President Donald Trump announced the U.S. recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and instructed the State Department to begin preparations for the transfer of the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv. He also urged other countries to follow the U.S. move.

Palestinian factions have called a general strike for Thursday and urged Palestinians to take to the streets in protest against the US president’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
